Located in Davie, Florida, Nova Southeastern University was originally founded in 1964 as a graduate institution for physical and social sciences, called the Nova University of Advanced Technology. The school was renamed after a 1994 merge with the Southeastern University for Health Sciences.

Since then, the university has grown, rapidly increasing student enrollment, faculty, staff and administration, as well as expanding to three campuses in the Miami-Dade county area and creating long distance education centers throughout the country. Presently, Nova is the largest independent higher education institution in the Southeastern United States and the third largest nonprofit university in the nation.

Students live in several residence halls on campus, while the school offers a distinguished speaker series that gives them the chance to hear lectures from notable experts in a variety of academic fields. With a population of over 33,000, there are hundreds of intramural sports, clubs and organizations available for students to join. Nova's athletics are members of the Sunshine State Conference and compete at the NCAA Division II level.
