Based in Newark, New Jersey, NJIT is a 45-acre technological center with six colleges that comprise New Jersey's science and technology university. Founded in 1881, NJIT was originally known as the Newark Technical School.
Since that time, the school has been known for its research in innovative and advanced fields like stem cell research, solar physics and nanotechnology. NJIT has also played a role in polymer science and the development of smart gun technology.
