School tuition can be an expensive undertaking for anyone wishing to pursue the academic route. Finding some form of financial support by way of a scholarship or grants can be even more cumbersome. This page aims to give a basic overview of some of the questions you are likely to face when deciding on the best form of financial aid.

How do I apply for scholarships?

You will be well advised to check your eligibility before applying for any scholarship. If you meet the requirements, then be show to carefully follow the instructions on the application form and be sure to check the form's guidelines are up to date. This can be done by making a quick phone call to the academic institution you're applying to. Once you have completed and sent off the form, it is good practice to make a call confirming your application has been received and being processed. Be sure to leave your name.

When is the best time to apply for a scholarship?

This is dependent on the type of scholarship you plan on applying for, with each program having their own set of rules and requirements. However, most deadlines tend to fall on the first quarter of the year.

Am I eligible for a scholarship?

This is dependent on the type of scholarship you are applying for and the requirements set by the scholarship committee.

How long does it take to know if my application has been successful?

It shouldn't take more than a few weeks after the deadline for you to be notified. If you still haven't been notified of any developments, you should call them.

What is a Rhodes scholarship?

This is one of the world's oldest international scholarships and is named after founder of De Beers, Cecil Rhodes. The scholarship was awarded for entry in to the University of Oxford initially lasting two years. All fees are paid by the Rhodes Trust.
