Philadelphia University established in 1884 as the Philadelphia Textile School. Over the years, the college has been named the Philadelphia Textile Institute and the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.

In 1999, the college changed its name to Philadelphia University. Philadelphia University offers students degree programs in areas including architecture, business administration, design and media, engineering and textiles, liberal arts and science and health.
