Located in Montpelier, Vermont, the New England Culinary Institute established in 1980 by John Dranow and Fran Voigt, with only seven students in the first class. By 1989, a second campus opened in Essex, Vermont. In such a short time, NECI has become one of the leading culinary schools in the country.
Student Life at the New England Culinary Institute
Over 500 students attend on-campus cooking instruction. The school's intense cooking focus allows students to "learn by doing," following along with the chef's instructions in state-of-the-art kitchens. Compared to other American culinary schools, the chef-to-student ratio is very small so that students maintain an engaging and active relationship with teachers.
