Despite having multiple campuses across the country, National American University's main campus is in Rapid City, South Dakota. Founded in 1941 by Clarence Jacobson as a secretarial school called National College of Business, National American University was later acquired in 1962 by Harold D. Buckingham and his family.
Since changing the name in 1997 to National American University, the school has added more campuses nationwide, including cities such as Denver, Albuquerque, Kansas City, Sioux Falls, Wichita and Overland Park. NAU began offering online courses in 1998 and has many degree programs students can earn through distance learning.
