Located in Lebanon, Tennessee, Cumberland University is about 30 miles east of Nashville. In 1842, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church founded the school.

The original building burned down during the American Civil War. Cumberland's current campus has been standing since 1896, but the school fell on hard times during the Depression era, when attendance dropped. Today, Cumberland University is thriving and growing as a liberal arts college.
