College of the Southwest

Introduction to College of the Southwest

Founded by B. Clarence Evans in 1956, College of the Southwest first started out as Hobbs Baptist College. It was also originally chartered as a two-year junior college.

As a Christian university in its beginnings, CSW turned into a non-denominational school to serve the southeastern New Mexico and West Texas area. Recently, the school's board of trustees voted to change the official name to University of the Southwest in an effort to reflect academic growth and the expanding student body.

Student Life at College of the Southwest

Set in the southeastern New Mexico desert, CSW earns recognition as a school with "teaching" faculty, as opposed to a larger research university. The small liberal arts background makes it ideal for students who want a more personal education experience. The Jack Maddox Distinguished Lecture Series brings influential individuals from all subject areas for inspirational lectures.
