Introduction to Clemson University

Clemson University is outside of the greater Greenville area in upstate South Carolina and is a short drive away from other cities such as Columbia, Atlanta, and Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1889, Thomas Green Clemson founded Clemson University. He designated in his will that his estate would go to establishing a campus for agricultural and mechanical sciences and arts.

Originally known as Clemson Agricultural College, today the school continues to expand its academic and research offerings.

The campus, which sits at the base of South Carolina's foothills and the Blue Ridge Mountains, is home to a population of over 17,000 students. Clemson's 19 sports teams compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
