Welcome and Introduction

Welcome and Introduction
by Mike Madin | Fri, 10/24/2008 - 12:21

Welcome to the AcademicInfo Blog. My name is Michael Madin and in 1998 I created AcademicInfo as an online directory of educational resources freely available on the Internet. As a student of comparative religion at the University of Washington and later as a technical services specialist at the Gallagher Law Library also at the University of Washington I witnessed the lack of quality directories of authoritative educational Internet resources and created Academic Info to fill this void.

As Google came to dominate Internet search AcademicInfo continued to focus on selected hand-picked websites for students and researchers. For example search for Islam on Google and you have to browse through hundreds on pages to find a few authoritative sites but search Islam on AcademicInfo we have already selected websites you can trust.

This Blog will explore the nature of human created Internet Directories versus computer generated search results as well more generally the use of the Internet as an educational platform for students, teachers, and researchers. I am of course open to any discussion rated to these
topics.

Regards,

Mike.
